June 15 Duets & Trios 6-8pm and then special guest Martha Scanlan

6:00-8:00pm Duets & Trios: Artists that choose to participate place their name in the hat. Duos are drawn; everyone goes off to their corners to practice something; after 5 minutes the musicians are called back to the stage and the performances begin. This crazy cycle repeats itself through out the night--building to a crazy jubilee at the end of the evening. It's always fun to see who's picked together. A great way for novices to cut some chops and for pros to relearn theirs.

WOW---Catch the Columns!!!

Prebetweens provided by Kc, Mark, Brian and David. Kc was on top of his game tonight. His uke and voice were in sync and so was his mojo. Then the Rural Grit All Stars performed. Great stuff from Betse and her friends. That girl is on top of her game and when she is there...you just need to see her in action when you can! Now to Bill. What a joy. He's got stage presence as well as talent. The Columns have a sound that floats into you and sticks. There's a wonderful sca element. All the musicians contribute subtly and in force. Add Bill's voice to this and it is enchanting and solid work. Go see them when you can! Next week: Duets and Trios PLUS Martha Scanlan!

A little of Brian...

"bourbon and gin are on my mind...it's such a crime to go so blind and never know that I crossed the line...just for comfort, I just drown..." Brian Frame

"bourbon and gin are on my mind..."

I never tire of saying, "another great night at the Rural Grit Happy Hour." Featured artists tonight included Brian Frame and Campbell's Soup. Prebetweens featured Kc, Mark, David, and even Noah kicked off the night. I especially enjoyed David's rendition of "Red Rockin' Chair." He stretched his voice and the dynamics of the song--making it very haunting. This is one of the joys of the RGHH--musicians stretch and try out a variety of material. Brian Frame came on and sang straight from his soul--"now I'll dance out of my dream." His lyrics and voice are a great combination. Inbetweens tonight featured Betse, Lizabeth and Cheri. Betse and David played a great tune together that reinforced her talent. Check out her solo album--Beste Ellis. Cambell's Soup (Jimmy and Karla Campbell + friends) made the evening comfortable and rockin'. Then good ole' Jubilee at the end. The best part of Jubilee the last month has been watching Noah learn (watch) and then implement what he learned. Next week: Bill Sundhal and The Columns.

High Octane and Hillbilly Country!!!

WHEW! Last night's RGHH was a powerful punch! The evening began with the usual quirky pluckin's of Kc Stanton on uke followed by Mark Smeltzer lyrical songwriting delivered through his homemade banjo. Adam Lee & The Dead Horse Company jumped up and gifted us with some fine rockin' country tunes. The first Inbetween was Brain Frame--beautiful lyrics and haunting vocals. Then the Calamity Cubes kicked up the octane--that boy doesn't really need mic! The next Inbetween spot was filled by The Fountain City Ramblers--an electric band who went acoustic for a couple songs that night. Another great set by Adam & Johnny. Then as always, Cheri Woods quieted the room with her smart sassy words. The Calamity Cubes knocked me out with their second set--new songs that really kicked--I was recalling those punk smashing days! The night ended with a Weeping Pilgrim Jubilee. Great night--high energy, stoked musicians, appreciative crowd.
